What think ye?
(They answered and said, He is guilty of death.)
(1)
Guilty: (Adj.) Responsible for or chargeable with a reprehensible act; or marked by guilt
Guilt? My friend, I am sure that you do not have any guilt in your life. I am sure that you are not chargeable or responsible for any reprehensible acts.
Reprehensible: (Adj.) Bringing or deserving severe rebuke or censure
I am sure that you have not done anything that would be deserving of such a rebuke, as I am sure that you do not have any of what the Bible calls sin, in your life.
or like me, do you?
Actually my friend, the Bible does say that you have sin in your life. As a matter of fact, it says that ALL have sinned(2) . That means that every person that has ever lived, has sinned. Think about that for a minute. You know in your heart that it's true, don't you? Let me ask you, which one of the Ten Commandments* have you kept? All of them? Well let's see...
- 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'
- 'You shall not make for yourself any graven image.'
- 'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.'
- 'Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy.'
- 'Honor your father and your mother.'
- 'You shall not murder.'
- 'You shall not commit adultery.'
- 'You shall not steal.'
- 'You shall not bear false witness.'
- 'You shall not covet.'
Well maybe your right, maybe you have kept all these commands of God. In that case, you are clear and free.
Oh no, one thing! I thought you said that you were not a liar? Well the Bible says that "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ... If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
OK so that's one sin. That's not bad, just think, who can say that they are only guilty of just one sin? Just one other thing, in the book of James, it says that "whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (14) That means that we can try to keep all the commands of God, but when we fail just one time, we are guilty of all of them, eternally.
I guess that means that we were wrong, you are a sinner. Aren't you?
Now since we agree that you have sinned, and according to the Bible, you sin because you are a sinner, the Bible says that you have fallen short of the glory of God. That means that you, as I have, have failed to earn His approval. The Bible simply says that God cannot look upon sin and thus must turn His back on us.
Well don't get discouraged, I have an answer and solution for that. What you need to do, is begin doing a lot of really good things. The following is a list of things that one might recommend:
Ok, now were moving in the right direction. Well wait a minute! I think we might have a problem. The Bible says that it's not "by works of righteousness which we have done(3). That is a big problem for us, isn't it? You see that means that there's nothing that we can do on our own to meet God's approval. Were doomed!
What, maybe your right. God wouldn't be so mean as to not allow us into heaven, maybe your right, maybe He'll forgive us, after all were good people. Let's hope so!
What did you say? No Hope! Well what's this talk about NO HOPE? Well your right, the Bible does talks about "others which have no hope.(6)". Well that's not directed at you, is it? You see, God is talking to His children here and says that "at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:". You see that is not talking to you, right? You are a child of God right? I mean, everyone is a child of God, isn't that right?
Woops, hold the press, what is this; "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." (7) That sounds like everyone isn't a child of God. As a matter of fact in John 3:18, the Bible says that "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." God wouldn't condemn his own children would He?
CONDEMNED? What is this condemnation and how in this world can we get out of it?
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(8)GREAT, but that is for those who are in Christ Jesus. What do we do now? ...
... Those are some good questions!
WHAT does that mean?
You see, this is talking about people who have put there trust "in Christ Jesus." Trusting the truth of His death, burial and resurrection. Jesus didn't die on the cross, shed His blood, commit Himself to a tomb, and rise from the dead to simply prove that He could do it. You see, that was a payment. Payment for what you ask? A payment for the penalty for your sin.
That's right, as we agreed earlier, you are a sinner. The Bible says that "For the wages of sin is death (9). That means that someone must die for God to forgive you of your sin. There is only one problem, it must be a sinless person. That's right, you got it! Who then is able? No one, exempt the Son of God, who came down from heaven as an offering. You see His blood, His Death, His Burial and His resurrection is the payment for the penalty for YOUR sin. If you can remember from the beginning, they said that Jesus was "guilty". You see He (the Lord Jesus Christ) was guilty because He bore your sin, He was guilty because of you.
Great! Your sin has been paid for. You are dept free, off to heaven! Wait a minute, not so fast. You see, like any gift you must receive it to be yours.
... the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
You must receive it to be saved! You must receive it to be born-again!
WHAT must I do to be saved, to be born again?
(12)The Bible says that all we have to do is "Repent" and "Believe" on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (10). It tells us that "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (11) It also says that "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
That sounds like a lot! But let me help you. It is simple, that is what is so great about it. As a matter a fact, many do not believe because it is so simple.
First, you need to confess to God that you are a sinner. You need to repent! Repentance is a turning from sin to God that results in a change of life. (you must not want to sin, not want to offend God)
Secondly, you must understand that there is a penalty for the sin you commit.
Third, you must realize that you cannot pay that dept. Your lost!
Forth, you must believe that Jesus Christ and His work at the cross (death and shedding of blood, burial, and resurrection) serves as payment for the penalty of your sin.
Then you must accept that payment to your account by Trusting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. You see it is a personal choice, a personal decision. God will not make you decide and no one or church can do it for you.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." It also says that if you have repented, that it leads to conversion and that your sins will be blotted out, (13)The Bible says that "
?
What think ye?
What will you do?
Will you Accept the Lord Jesus Christ or will you Reject Him?
Glory to God, if you've ACCEPTED Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, by God's grace you've been born again, and saved from above!
You are a new creature!
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2Co 5:17
